Books have been written about parent-child relationships, movies have been filmed, and any meeting with a psychologist in conscious age begins with the phrase "What is your relationship with your parents?" There are no perfect parents (or children). But any relationship requires patience and effort from both sides. Mutual respect, care, love, and the ability to listen and forgive are the keys to success, no matter how banal it sounds.

The relationship with parents affects our entire life. Therefore, it is worth paying close attention to them and doing everything possible to improve them. Try the following recommendations.

  • Leave the past in the past.

Do not allow old conflicts to destroy your current relationships. Live only here and now. It's important to forgive your parents for everything that has been an obstacle. Yes, there were conflicts, but now you are all different people, with different life experiences and a new system of values. Start relationships from scratch.

  • Live your own life.

In childhood, a child is a person dependent on their parents. Sometimes this is carried over into adult life, when a grown-up mom or dad tries to control the child as if they were still 5 years old. Learn to set boundaries and not feel guilty for not letting your parents into all aspects of your life.

  • Remember about mutual respect for each other.

Here applies the rule: do not argue about opinions, but only express your point of view, do not try to convince each other and do not blame for recklessness, stupidity, pretentiousness, old-fashion. Mutual respect allows you to consult, ask for opinions on various issues, but make choices by yourself.
